Sometimes the best thing you can do for your mental health is pick up a chainsaw and get to work.
Reinaldo, a veteran who volunteered at a 10KO work week, found that getting outside and focusing on a task helped cut through the noise. When you’re clearing trail or putting up blinds, you’re in the zone, and the zone has a way of replacing what’s been weighing on you with something purposeful.
His time deployed overseas also shaped how he sees service and home. Volunteering is one of the ways he puts that appreciation into action.
Reinaldo sat down with us to talk about what outdoor work has done for his mental health, why he sees the woods as therapy, and why he thinks more veterans and community members should get out and volunteer if they’re able.
Get outside, find something worth doing, and show up.
