Another weekend came alive with the smell of saltwater and smoke. An oceanside seafood cookout crackling on the shore, heavy rods bent under the weight of sharks, and a salt-laced breeze rolling in off the Gulf to welcome the next group of veterans and first responders to Shark Camp in Port Aransas, Texas.
For four days, the group called the beachfront home. They explored on golf carts, wandered the jetty, and let the rhythm of the coast set the pace. Days were spent oceanside, surrounded by new friends, the easy back-and-forth of a bags game, and the art of learning to shark fish. As the sun dropped, the nights took over. Lines back in the water, bonfires burning on the sand, and live music drifting through the salty air.
Port Aransas has a way of drawing people in, and it wasn’t just the veterans who felt it. Locals showed up, like they always do at 10KO shark camp, to shake hands and share space with the people who served them.
Brothers from different zip codes found each other. Stories got told. And when it was over, every single person left carrying something they didn’t have when they arrived.
